Jakarta Fire Leaves Hundreds Homeless After Hundreds of Houses Burn
The blaze broke out late Monday in the Kemayoran district in central Jakarta and quickly spread through a densely populated neighborhood, leaving around 620 people homeless, as stated by reports citing local officials and news agency.
The Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency said the fire impacted approximately 330 households, forcing residents from several surrounding blocks to evacuate.
Agency head Syarifudin said, “There are approximately 620 people who lost their homes.”
Firefighting teams encountered major difficulties during the response, including narrow and congested access routes, large crowds gathering at the scene, and residents attempting to salvage belongings as the fire advanced through the area.
