Train Collision in Indonesia’s West Java kills Four, Injures Dozens
The collision took place late in the day in Bekasi, where a long-distance passenger train struck a commuter train that had reportedly been stationary on the tracks, according to state-run news agency Antara.
According to reports, officials from the state-owned rail operator Kereta Api Indonesia confirmed that all 240 passengers aboard the long-distance train were safely evacuated. The company’s vice president of corporate communication, Anne Purba, expressed regret over the incident and emphasized the priority of assisting those affected.
She said the company’s immediate focus is to ensure that “all passengers and staff receive the best possible care as quickly and as effectively as possible."
Early accounts from the scene described emergency response efforts involving volunteers and railway security staff transporting injured passengers on stretchers as evacuations were carried out.
Authorities also deployed specialized teams from Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency to assist at the site, using advanced equipment and trained personnel to help extract victims and manage the aftermath of the crash.
